Digital Sculpture Workshop

  • Studio A - Adele H. Stamp Student Union 3972 Campus Drive College Park, MD, 20742 United States (map)

This three-hour workshop introduces participants to soft modeling, an approach to digital sculpture that mimics working with clay in a virtual environment. Using Nomad Sculpt on Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 FE devices (provided by Studio A), participants learn how to shape, refine, and prepare organic 3D forms suitable for printing, rendering, or other digital applications.

The session begins with a live demonstration of Nomad Sculpt’s core tools, followed by guided exercises that help participants explore additive and subtractive sculpting workflows. After initial hands-on modeling time, the workshop shifts into fabrication, walking through exporting, slicing, and preparing models for resin 3D printing.

Workshop Goals

Participants explore:

  • Soft modeling techniques and digital clay workflows

  • Creating organic 3D forms for printing and rendering

  • Exporting and preparing models for fabrication

  • Supporting and slicing files for resin printing

  • Tools and resources for continuing 3D modeling work

Schedule Overview

  • 10:00–10:15: Welcome + Overview

  • 10:15–10:45: Nomad Sculpt demo + guided modeling

  • 10:45–11:15: Hands-on creation time

  • 11:15–11:30: Break

  • 11:30–12:00: Slicing demo + printing walkthrough

  • 12:00–12:45: Refine, remix, or share

  • 12:45–1:00: Q&A + resources + summer course information

Participant Outcome

By the end of the workshop, attendees gain experience in:

  • Navigating Nomad Sculpt

  • Building and refining digital clay forms

  • Preparing 3D models for resin-based printing

  • Understanding basic slicing and support generation

  • Continuing their digital sculpture practice using accessible tools

This workshop serves as an approachable entry point into digital fabrication, providing both artistic and technical foundations to support future creative projects.
